In an exciting change of pace, Ms. Berdoll takes her sharp wit and great storytelling to nineteenth century San Francisco. Fandango is a tale of the impetuous and the prickly, the arrogant and sagacious. Rich and bored to sobs, it is inevitable that Annabella Chase will leave a string of broken men in her wake. On the way to everlasting love, she takes several detours. The first occurs when her heart is captivated by the sun-tanned sinews and wind-swept locks of a handsome whaler. In her path soon falls Asher Price, indifferent to everyone and determined to stay that way. Even the headstrong Annabella learns that it is one thing to ask for trouble, quite another to offer it a chair. There are few truths in 1849 San Francisco. One is that every soul in town came to escape from something or someone.

I originally found this author through her Pride and Prejudice sequels. I am so happy I read this one. I would love to see more stories like this!I love the protagonist she is a little annoying and so sheltered by her grandparents that I couldn't help laugh at some moments and say aloud as I read "really what are you thinking?" I liked the end but so wanted more! (As she always does with her books) I wanted to see her grow into an amazing Women and to see San Fransisco grow so badly that when it ended i was a little sad.
I would recommend this book for anyone who likes to laugh a little at main character, loves a great read from beginning to end, and just likes historical pieces that feel genuine and not pushed or glossed over.

Fandango Linda Berdoll 9780967481722 Books Reviews
i really like linda berdoll's books on the continuing story of the darcy's but this book is no where near as good. i didnt even finish it. i couldnt get into the characters and just wasn't pulled in by the story.
This book was great. I am already a big fan of the author for her Pride and Prejudice sequels, and this book did not disappoint. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait until she writes another!
fandango n 1 a lively Spanish or Spanish-American dance in triple time ... ; 2 tomfoolery (Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Tenth Edition).
Ms. Berdoll has created a cast of characters with lives mired in their desires as deep and sucking as her San Francisco mud and both definitions are fitting. Just who will emerge from the muck of extreme human foolishness with only the loss of expensive shoes is storytelling at its best. Ms. Berdoll's descriptive scenes and clever repartee is always engaging. When Gus says, "I never once believed you was stupid as all that" and Anabella cries, "But I am, Gus, I am!" you nod in (LOL) agreement because you are there! With a nod to Thackeray's "Vanity Fair," many characters merit a "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." Thereby comes epiphany; beyond the immature, impetuous Annabella, the arrogant banker Asher Price, Gus, the stalwart barkeep, the other greedy low-lifes and naïve victims, you realize the protagonist is Folly itself running at full gallop from cover to cover! To fully appreciate such imaginative, insightful writing, see Webster's "tongue-in-cheek."
Ignore the insufficient editing and enjoy the ride.
Another well-written novel by Linda Berdoll. I love her Pride and Prejudice sequels so was excited that she was trying something different. Fantastic portrayal of San Fransisco around the time of the gold rush. Her writing is so descriptive and her character development is amazing; love it. I couldn't put it down for the last 200 pages. They need a little help with editing for the next printing. There were several gramatical errors, but easy enough to figure out on your own. The last several chapters also seemed a little rushed and left me wanting more, but her books always do. Here's hoping for a sequel!!
